Engineering Manager, Federal & Regulated Infrastructure
Snorkel AI
remote · full time · Manager
$210,000 - $315,000
About the Role
This team brings our DaaS (Data-as-a-Service) platform to government and regulated enterprise customers. You’ll lead the engineering team that takes the services behind DaaS and makes them run securely in regulated, high-assurance infrastructure, without forking the product. The goal is to keep the same capabilities we use today for generating data, evals, and benchmarks, now built to meet the security, auditability, and compliance demands of regulated data and the subject-matter experts who work with it.
This is a zero-to-one role. You’ll start by understanding the technical requirements of our regulated customers in depth. Then you’ll work with your team and our platform team to make the architecture changes, move services, and deploy into regulated environments end to end.
Main Responsibilities
- Lead a team of engineers through a zero-to-one build: define technical requirements, make architecture changes, and deploy/operate services in regulated environments end to end.
- Partner with the platform team to balance regulated infrastructure adaptations with commercial platform parity.
- Build repeatable environment provisioning: infrastructure-as-code and CI/CD promoting releases with security scanning and change control.
- Partner with Security, Compliance, Product, and Applied AI to translate requirements (FedRAMP, NIST 800-53, CMMC, and customer-specific) into audit-ready engineering work.
- Own operational outcomes for regulated environments: continuous monitoring, vulnerability management, incident response, and audit evidence.
- Address gaps between commercial and regulated infrastructure by designing alternative capabilities.
- Drive hiring, team scaling, and maintain a high talent bar.
- Coach and develop engineers and tech leads into autonomous owners.
- Set clear priorities, execution plans, and delivery commitments.
- Establish engineering standards for design reviews, testing, observability, and root cause analysis.
Qualifications
- 6+ years of experience in software engineering with strong hands-on technical depth.
- 2+ years in an engineering management role leading a team of engineers.
- 2+ years hands-on experience deploying into government or other regulated cloud environments with isolated, air-gapped, or restricted networks.
- Experience designing, building, and operating scaled production systems in the cloud (including infrastructure-as-code, CI/CD, and containerized services).
- Deep technical fluency in architecture and design reviews.
- Familiarity with security-sensitive or regulated compliance frameworks (e.g., FedRAMP, NIST 800-53, CMMC, SOC 2, HIPAA).
- Proven track record hiring, developing, and retaining strong engineers.
- Clear communication across engineering, security/compliance, customers, and executive teams.
