$176,250 - $182,500
About the Role
Xometry is looking for a Staff Software Engineer to join our Core Platform team. This role is a strategic technical leadership position focused on the architectural evolution of our flagship enterprise partnership.
While our current plug-ins function as external add-ons, you will be responsible for re-architecting Xometry’s core application services to live natively within our partner's digital ecosystem. You will shape the technical direction of multiple products, establishing the engineering patterns that allow Xometry’s AI—trained on millions of parts—to operate directly on our partner's native 3D geometry. Your goal is to move the architectural framework toward a "target state" where users experience zero-latency DFM feedback and one-click procurement without ever leaving their primary enterprise design environment.
This role requires a hybrid schedule (3 days a week) at our North Bethesda, MD or Waltham, MA office location.
How You'll Contribute
- Software Development and Technical Craft: Design high-performance solutions that extend beyond a single org, establishing the organizational standards for how Xometry-AI is embedded into external PLM environments. Advance our architectural framework to ensure it is extensible, scalable, and adheres to strict enterprise SLIs/SLOs.
- AI Fluency: Lead the effort to integrate production ML pipelines into the application layer, ensuring "science fiction speed" through optimized model serving and real-time geometry analysis. Champion AI-assisted development practices across the team, mentoring engineers on AI tools to accelerate delivery and reduce toil.
- Problem Solving and Decision Making: Solve significant challenges regarding data gravity and security. Build formal networks between partner and Xometry engineering groups, specifically regarding "ring-fenced" data governance where part files remain securely within the partner's network infrastructure.
- Scope and Impact: Establish the strategic direction and lead execution of this core integration. Ensure the integration of DFM (Manufacturability) and IQE (Pricing) AI engines creates a distinct edge for the partnership.
- Collaboration and Communication: Facilitate technical discourse across the organization, leading to durable, well-documented decisions. Guide risk/reward conversations with senior leadership and champion cross-functional development across marketplace and data science teams.
- Operational Excellence: Define reliability and security standards for enterprise-grade deployments, whether partner-hosted or Xometry-hosted, ensuring seamless multi-tenant management.
Qualifications
- Experience: 12+ years of professional software development experience, with a history of scaling complex platforms.
- Deep Technical Expertise: Expert-level mastery of Python, AWS infrastructure, and modern frontend frameworks (React/NextJS) used for complex enterprise applications.
- Systems Architect: Proven experience shaping the technical direction of multiple teams and establishing engineering patterns as organizational standards.
- Strategic Roadmap Execution: Track record of securing endorsement for 6-12 month initiatives and driving them to successful production deployment.
- Communication Excellence: Ability to influence senior leadership and external partners on technical strategy and long-term technology investments.
- Education: Bachelor’s in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Platform Experience: Background in building SaaS platforms or complex B2B integration hubs.
- Industrial Tech Background: Experience with manufacturing, logistics, or CAD/PLM software ecosystems.
- Security & Governance: Deep understanding of enterprise data controls, dedicated tenants, and SOC2/ISO compliance within a cloud environment.
- Distributed Systems: Experience architecting large-scale ML platforms or high-frequency marketplace engines.
