What you’ll do

Travel & Expense spans several engineering teams — expenses, travel, policy, and spend controls — that have to work as one system for customers. We're looking for a Staff Engineer who operates across all of them to find the most important problems across T&E and drive them to a solution.

This is a leadership role without direct reports. You'll set technical direction across the group, raise the bar in design and review, partner closely with Staff Engineers as peers, and have a seat at the T&E leadership table.

Responsibilities

  • Identify the highest-impact technical problems across Travel & Expense — including cross-team gaps — and drive them to resolution.
  • Set and raise the technical bar across the group through design reviews, architecture decisions, and hands-on work.
  • Partner as a peer with existing Staff Engineers and EMs across expenses, travel, policy, and spend controls.
  • Act as a force multiplier: mentor senior engineers, improve team design and shipping practices, and grow technical leaders.
  • Bring an AI-forward mindset to how the org builds, reviews, and operates.
  • Contribute directly to technical strategy and investment areas.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of software engineering experience, with a track record of technical leadership across multiple teams or a group.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and drive ambiguous, cross-cutting problems to resolution without a defined charter.
  • Deep experience designing and operating large-scale backend systems in production.
  • Strong collaboration skills with ICs and managers.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.

Benefits

Hybrid work environment requiring 3 days/week in office, with up to four weeks per year of fully remote work. Equity and additional forms of compensation may be provided.
