About the Role
MongoDB is seeking a Staff Engineer to provide technical direction and implement core components of a new platform designed to make it easier for customers to build AI applications using MongoDB.
In this role, you will provide technical leadership to teams developing technologies to enable the deployment of AI applications at scale. You will take on high-visibility projects to enhance the performance, scalability, and reliability of the distributed systems infrastructure for this new product.
Position Expectations
- Work closely with product management, product engineering, and product design peers, as well as cross-functional teams, to define the initial version and future evolution of the service.
- Design, build, and deliver well-tested core pieces of the platform.
- Shape architecture, code reviews, development practices, and developer experience as the team and product scale.
- Mentor engineers and assume ownership and accountability of projects.
Qualifications
- Strong background in building core components for high-scale compute and data distributed systems.
- 8+ years of experience building distributed systems and/or foundational cloud services at scale, with an interest in working with Python, Go, and Java.
- Proven success designing, writing, testing, debugging, performance tuning, and maintaining distributed and/or highly concurrent software systems in large, long-lived codebases.
- Strong grip on the foundational principles of computer science.
- Track record of identifying problems, implementing solutions, and delivering complex projects in distributed systems or databases.
- Experience leading 15–20 person projects involving distributed systems infrastructure from conception to successful delivery.
- Excellent verbal and written technical communication skills, with a collaborative mindset.
- Demonstrated ability to be a force multiplier in the software development process through leadership and technical contributions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with containerization and orchestration platforms (e.g., Kubernetes).
- Experience with AI frameworks and tools.
