Autonomous Systems Security Engineer
Anthropic
San Francisco, Ca · hybrid · full time
$320,000 - $405,000
About the Role
Claude is trained and served on hardware in data centers Anthropic operates and in sites partners build and run for us. DCSE secures that footprint: the sites, the hardware moving through them, and the people and vendors who touch it. You'll be the engineer who owns autonomous systems across that footprint as one security domain, from both sides: drones, ground robots and automated vehicles for patrol, inspection and moving hardware, including the security of that automation inside secure areas, and the detection systems that tell us what is flying over or operating near a site uninvited.
The role is based in San Francisco, with remote applicants in the US considered, and involves regular travel to data center sites.
Key Responsibilities
- Autonomous security and inspection systems: Own drones, ground robots, and other autonomous platforms for perimeter patrol, incident response, and infrastructure inspection (platform selection, operating model, maintenance, and data paths).
- Tools, automation and AI agents: Build integrations that carry detections, tracks, telemetry, and fleet health into the security monitoring platform, and build tools and agents that triage detections and assemble evidence.
- Detection of uncrewed systems: Engineer sensing for site airspace and perimeter (sensor selection, per-site coverage, classification, false-alarm handling, and evidence retention).
- Security of site automation: Engineer controls on automated vehicles and robots working in secure areas (identity/access, network isolation, fail-secure behavior, chain of custody).
- Regulatory and site constraints: Establish sensing, flight, driving, and retention boundaries under aviation, spectrum, privacy, and safety rules, securing waivers and approvals.
- Health monitoring: Define and test heartbeats, loss-of-coverage, and lost-link alarms.
- Vendor requirements and acceptance: Write requirements, evaluate against live tests, and enforce vendor standards.
Minimum Qualifications
- Field engineering experience with autonomous or sensing systems (drones, ground robots, automated vehicles, or RF/radar/optical detection sensors).
- Experience integrating external systems (vendor APIs, SDKs, appliances, telemetry) into enduring platforms.
- Ability to read and review code, design data systems for security tooling, and build automation using Git and code review.
- Hands-on experience working with data centers, critical infrastructure, or large hardware fleets.
- Proven track record of designing within regulatory or safety constraints (aviation, spectrum, privacy, machine safety).
- Ability to own a technical domain end-to-end across vendors, operators, partners, and authorities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Remote pilot certification (e.g., FAA Part 107) and experience flying BVLOS under a waiver/exemption.
- Experience with counter-drone (counter-UAS) detection, airspace surveillance, or air traffic data systems.
- Experience managing robot, drone, or automated-vehicle fleets in industrial, logistics, or data center environments.
- Experience securing embedded, operational technology, or robotic systems (device identity, network segmentation, logging).
- Experience with physical security operations at large sites, law enforcement/aviation coordination, or colocation/GPU cloud sites.
- Experience building AI agents or automation that replaced recurring manual work.
Benefits
Anthropic offers competitive compensation and benefits, optional equity donation matching, generous vacation and parental leave, and flexible working hours.
