About the Role

Join the Backend Engineering team as a Security Software Engineering Intern for Summer 2027. Work across the software stack and collaborate across teams to build and launch features for Verkada's security products used around the world.

This internship requires on-site work at Verkada's headquarters in San Mateo, California.

Responsibilities

• Build scalable distributed systems handling high traffic from hundreds of thousands of devices worldwide.
• Work with high-concurrency key-value storage systems, including Redis and DynamoDB, and Postgres relational databases.
• Use logging and message-passing technologies such as Kafka and SQS.
• Deploy services using Terraform and Kubernetes.
• Develop large-scale systems to remotely interact with and configure products.
• Define and improve low-latency, high-throughput, highly reliable microservice architectures.
• Design and develop features incorporating computer vision.
• Design clean APIs and implement them using Python and/or Go.

Qualifications

• Available to work at Verkada headquarters during Summer 2027.
• Actively pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science or a similar technical field, graduating by June 2028.
• Prior internship experience developing and launching products.
• Familiarity with Python or Go, distributed systems, operating systems, AWS, and Docker.
• Comfortable working in an agile team software development environment.
• Familiarity with REST APIs and Linux servers is a plus.

Compensation and Benefits

• Estimated hourly pay: $55–$65 USD. Actual starting pay may vary based on location, skills, experience, market demand, and internal parity.
