Senior Engineering Manager, Payments & Reconciliation

About the Role

The Revenue Cycle Management team at Commure is hiring a Senior Engineering Manager to lead the team that owns the payments and reconciliation path. This role manages an engineering team of ~6 engineers responsible for reading insurer payment files, matching payments to claims, recording money on visit ledgers, reconciling against bank deposits, calculating patient balances/collections, and partnering with financial reporting.

A near-term priority is to hire 2 engineers to strengthen the team. You will serve as the people leader and delivery owner: hiring, coaching, planning, and shipping outcomes while setting technical direction.

What You'll Do

People & Team Leadership

• Manage a team of ~6 engineers across payment file processing, matching, ledger recording, bank reconciliation, patient balances/collections, and financial reporting integration.
• Hire 2 engineers as an immediate priority; coach, retain, and grow the team through performance reviews, career development, and healthy on-call practices.
• Balance shipping new work with maintaining the reliability of money systems.
• Mentor senior engineers to deeply own technical domain areas.

Technical & Product Leadership

• Set technical and product direction for the end-to-end payment lifecycle.
• Align with cross-functional teams (claims submission, denials, financial reporting, patient product, operations) to ensure clear handoffs.
• Invest in system visibility, dashboards, and runbooks.
• Guide safe architectural and database changes to large databases and long-running batch pipelines.

Execution & Planning

• Own quarterly planning, breaking large initiatives into shippable milestones.
• Represent the team with product, operations, and leadership; communicate trade-offs clearly.
• Drive self-service tooling for clinic configuration to reduce repetitive support tasks.

Qualifications

Required

• 3+ years managing software engineers (hiring, performance, career growth), leading teams of ~5–8+ engineers on backend-heavy systems.
• Track record shipping and operating financial, payments, billing, reconciliation, accounting, or collections systems in production.
• Strong technical judgment across large databases, background pipelines, and complex business rules.
• Experience partnering with operations or customer-facing teams.
• Clear written and verbal communication; comfort owning incidents and summarizing them for stakeholders.

Strongly Preferred

• Background in healthcare billing, insurance payments, patient accounting, practice management, or deep fintech/accounting platforms.
• Experience with file-based integrations, matching/reconciliation problems, or high-volume batch pipelines.
• Experience ensuring operational systems and financial reports stay in agreement.
• Track record of improving on-call quality, reducing MTTR, and testing high-risk automation before deployment.
• Experience growing senior engineers across multiple problem areas.
