About the Role

The Onsite Customer Growth team builds personalized website experiences that help brands convert visitors into subscribers and customers. Its work spans creative capabilities, experimentation, and AI-driven optimization, supporting onsite engagement for millions of users.

As a Staff Software Engineer, you will serve as a technical anchor, own complex cross-cutting challenges, shape architectural decisions across teams, and define technical strategy as the platform scales.

This full-time hybrid role is based in New York, with in-office collaboration Tuesday through Thursday each week.

Responsibilities

• Define and own the Onsite Growth platform's technical architecture, including services, APIs, and shared infrastructure used by multiple teams.
• Lead cross-functional technical strategy with product, design, ML, and data science teams, taking complex and ambiguous problems from alignment to production.
• Identify and address reliability gaps, scalability limits, and architectural debt before they become business blockers.
• Build scalable backend services, APIs, and user-facing product capabilities.
• Improve observability, resiliency, and performance to keep onsite experiences fast and reliable at scale.
• Mentor engineers through technical feedback, growth sponsorship, and development opportunities.
• Strengthen engineering culture through technical leadership and a focus on customer impact.

Qualifications

• At least 8 years of professional software engineering experience, including leadership of complex systems at scale.
• Demonstrated staff-level impact through architectural decisions shaping an entire product area or platform.
• Deep proficiency in at least one modern programming language, such as Java or TypeScript.
• Experience designing distributed systems, APIs, and microservices, with a solid understanding of reliability, scalability, and performance.
• Strong technical communication, including writing clear RFCs, leading design reviews, and explaining complex tradeoffs to non-engineers.
• Experience with cloud infrastructure and modern developer tooling, including AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, relational databases, caching, queues, and streaming.
• A history of developing engineers through mentorship, code review, and raising engineering standards.
• Curiosity, strong collaboration skills, and enthusiasm for building products that drive customer growth.

Compensation and Benefits

• US annual base salary: $205,000–$275,000, plus equity and benefits.
• Salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location.
