Staff Software Engineer
Xometry
Waltham, Ma · hybrid · full time · Staff
$176,250 - $182,500
About the Role
Xometry is looking for a Staff Software Engineer to join our Core Platform team. This role is a strategic technical leadership position focused on the architectural evolution of our flagship enterprise partnership.
While our current plug-ins function as external add-ons, you will be responsible for re-architecting Xometry’s core application services to live natively within our partner's digital ecosystem. You will shape the technical direction of multiple products, establishing the engineering patterns that allow Xometry’s AI—trained on millions of parts—to operate directly on our partner's native 3D geometry.
This role requires a hybrid schedule (3 days a week) at our North Bethesda, MD or Waltham, MA office location.
How You'll Contribute
- Software Development and Technical Craft: Design high-performance solutions that extend beyond a single org, establishing organizational standards for embedding Xometry-AI into external PLM environments. Advance architectural frameworks to ensure extensibility, scalability, and adherence to strict enterprise SLIs/SLOs.
- AI Fluency: Lead the effort to integrate production ML pipelines into the application layer through optimized model serving and real-time geometry analysis. Champion AI-assisted development practices and mentor engineers.
- Problem Solving and Decision Making: Address unique challenges regarding data gravity and security, specifically regarding "ring-fenced" data governance.
- Scope and Impact: Establish the strategic direction and lead the execution of core integrations, ensuring DFM and IQE AI engines create a defensible edge.
- Collaboration and Communication: Facilitate technical discourse across the organization, guiding risk/reward conversations with senior leadership and driving cross-functional development.
- Operational Excellence: Define reliability and security standards for enterprise-grade deployments, ensuring seamless multi-tenant management.
What You'll Bring
- 12+ years of professional software development experience, scaling complex platforms.
- Expert-level mastery of Python, AWS infrastructure, and modern frontend frameworks (React/Next.js).
- Proven experience shaping technical direction across multiple teams and establishing engineering patterns.
- Track record of securing endorsement for 6-12 month initiatives and driving them to successful production deployment.
- Ability to influence senior leadership and external partners on technical strategy.
- Bachelor’s in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience.
Bonus Qualifications
- Background building SaaS platforms or complex B2B integration hubs.
- Experience with manufacturing, logistics, or CAD/PLM software ecosystems.
- Deep understanding of enterprise data controls, dedicated tenants, and SOC2/ISO compliance within cloud environments.
- Experience architecting large-scale ML platforms or high-frequency marketplace engines.
Benefits
Competitive benefits package includes 401(k) match, medical, dental, and vision insurance, life and disability coverage, generous PTO, maternity/bonding leave, wellbeing resources, and lunch stipends.
