About Anthropic

Anthropic builds reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. Its Capacity Engineering team owns the data, tooling, and systems used to plan, measure, and maximize utilization across accelerator and CPU fleets, clouds, neoclouds, and on-premises sites.

About the Role

The AI Infrastructure Operations, Demand Planning role sits within the Planning pillar and partners daily with research engineering, pretraining, inference, compute supply, finance, and external vendors.

Own capacity tranches from forecast-derived requirements and sourcing through delivery, cluster readiness, and workload occupancy. Maintain the integrated schedule and system of record, drive milestone owners toward delivery dates, and turn delivery issues into contract improvements, automation, and forecast corrections.

Responsibilities

  • Translate forecasts and planner input into accelerator, interconnect, region, supporting-resource, and delivery-date requirements for each tranche.
  • Represent requirements in sourcing negotiations and data center build reviews, including contractual terms that affect delivery dates.
  • Qualify deliverability before signature: ensure capacity can arrive schedulable, healthy, and instrumented, with storage, egress, and identity ready.
  • Track and publish forecast-versus-delivered variance in shape, region, and timing; feed findings into Demand Planning and future contracts.
  • Define the canonical contract-to-occupied state machine with explicit entry and exit criteria, and integrate it into the capacity data layer.
  • Manage parallel bring-ups across cloud regions, on-premises sites, and neocloud blocks using one integrated schedule covering provider milestones, cluster creation, network turn-up, storage readiness, health burn-in, and first workloads.
  • Drive integrated, automated, and scalable readiness processes for new capacity.
  • Report time-to-occupied, paid-idle costs, portfolio status, tradeoffs, and risks to executives.

Qualifications

  • Significant experience delivering large-scale infrastructure, such as cloud regions, accelerator clusters, HPC systems, or bare-metal fleets, at multi-region scale or at least 10,000 accelerators, or equivalent CPU/storage capacity.
  • Technical breadth across cluster orchestration, node health, telemetry, and planning tables, with the ability to debug discrepancies directly.
  • SQL and sufficient Python to independently investigate questions and build reporting.
  • A technical degree or equivalent engineering track record. The stated minimum education is a bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience in a field relevant to the role.
  • Experience requirements depend on the position's internal job level; no numerical minimum is specified.

Preferred Experience

  • Reserved-capacity onboarding, private offers, or capacity commitments with cloud or neocloud providers.
  • Demand planning, challenging forecasts, translating forecasts into tranche requirements, and feeding delivery variance back into planning.
  • Data center or colocation delivery, including power and space planning, network turn-up, site acceptance, and vendor management.
  • Accelerator health and burn-in, collective-communications sanity testing, or fleet-health SLOs.
  • Infrastructure asset systems of record or lifecycle services.
  • Onboarding new hardware generations into existing scheduler and observability stacks.

Location and Compensation

  • Locations: San Francisco, CA, or New York City, NY.
  • Listed location type: on-site. Anthropic's general policy expects staff in an office at least 25% of the time; some roles require more.
  • Annual salary: $320,000–$405,000 USD.
