Director of Engineering, Brokerage Platform

About the Team + Role

The Brokerage Platform org is the backbone of everything Robinhood trades, clears, and settles. It powers equities trades, options contracts, event contracts, and crypto transactions. The org spans four interconnected teams: Market Data & Symbology, Trading Platform, Clearing, and Brokerage Infrastructure.

As the Director of Engineering, Brokerage Platform, you will lead one of Robinhood's largest engineering organizations, owning technical strategy, people leadership, and delivery execution for a high-stakes, 24/7 platform.

Responsibilities

• Own the full engineering strategy and delivery across Market Data & Symbology, Trading Platform, Clearing, and Brokerage Infrastructure.
• Lead and develop a distributed engineering organization of senior/staff engineers and engineering managers.
• Drive platform investments, modernization, reliability, and scalability bets that deliver measurable business impact.
• Partner with TPM counterparts to manage, prioritize, and triage incoming demands from product teams.
• Own reliability, operational health, and rapid high-severity incident resolution for continuous market-critical systems.
• Engage with cross-functional and executive leadership representing platform roadmap, dependencies, and capabilities.
• Champion platform modernization initiatives such as stack rewrites, sharding, multi-region scaling, and infrastructure abstractions.

Qualifications

• 15+ years of software engineering experience, with 6+ years in engineering leadership roles (including Director or Senior Director experience managing multi-team orgs).
• Deep platform engineering background owning foundational backend platforms at scale.
• Proven track record driving platform modernization investments to measurable business outcomes.
• Experience operating in high-severity, always-on engineering environments and leading through major incidents.
• Strong background with distributed systems, backend services at scale, Go or Python, and cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred).

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in financial services, trading, brokerage, or adjacent high-criticality domains (market data, clearing, order execution, brokerage infrastructure).
• Background in high-performance engineering organizations in fintech, trading, crypto, or large-scale consumer platforms.
