Staff Software Engineer, Enterprise Apps

Role Overview

As a Staff Software Engineer on the Agent Engagement and Experience team within Coinbase's Enterprise Applications and Architecture (EAA) organization, you will build customer experience platforms powering customer service and compliance processes for CX agents. You will architect distributed systems, anchor new initiatives, set technical direction, and mentor engineers to improve customer satisfaction and compliance outcomes at scale.

Coinbase is remote-first, with quarterly in-person working sessions ("surges").

What You'll Do

• Architect and deliver distributed backend systems and foundational infrastructure components (dynamic configuration, container orchestration, secrets storage) using Go, gRPC, TypeScript, and React.
• Lead technical direction by defining strategic roadmaps alongside engineering management and stakeholders, turning ambiguous problems into actionable architectural plans.
• Build and scale high-reliability services that streamline CX agent workflows and compliance processes, owning end-to-end delivery from design to production deployment.
• Mentor engineers on design techniques, coding standards, testing practices, and operational best practices.
• Partner cross-functionally across multiple time zones, foresee technical challenges, and communicate complex concepts clearly to technical and non-technical leaders.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience architecting and delivering distributed systems to solve ambiguous, high-impact problems.
• Deep proficiency in Go (Golang) and experience building scalable, high-traffic backend services in production (APIs, event-driven architectures, SQL/NoSQL databases).
• Hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure and DevOps tooling such as AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform, CI/CD pipelines (e.g., BuildKite), caching, rate limiting, load balancing, circuit breakers, and observability (metrics, logging, tracing).
• Demonstrated track record of leading technical projects end-to-end, mentoring engineers, and influencing architectural decisions without direct authority.
• Ability to utilize generative AI responsibly with human oversight to improve workflow efficiency, cost, and quality.
