Senior Software Engineer, AI & App Experience

About the role

Chime is seeking a Senior Full-Stack Engineer to build Jade, its AI-powered financial assistant. The role spans member-facing financial capabilities, agent and conversation experiences, internal tools, dashboards, and backend services for model routing, prompt management, agent orchestration, and evaluation pipelines.

Jade helps members manage spending, track subscriptions, and work toward financial goals. You will help shape how it reasons, acts, and improves while maintaining reliability and safety at scale.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and scale new capabilities for Jade.
• Develop agent architectures, prompt strategies, and orchestration patterns.
• Build evaluation frameworks, observability, and guardrail systems.
• Partner cross-functionally to address member pain points and deliver secure, scalable solutions.
• Improve reliability through performance tuning and architectural enhancements.
• Contribute to technical design, code reviews, and mentorship.
• Learn quickly, adapt to shifting priorities, and proactively identify opportunities to improve capabilities, conversation testing, and quality.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of backend software development experience in production environments.
• Proficiency with AI tooling and AI-native development.
• Proficiency with Python or comparable frameworks.
• Experience with transactional databases, such as Postgres, and caching systems, such as Redis.
• Familiarity with architectural patterns in high-scale systems.
• Strong focus on maintainable, well-tested code.
• Drive to learn and investigate technical systems deeply.
• Bonus: experience with agent development, fintech, or startup environments.

Location and work policy

• New York, NY, or San Francisco, CA.
• The posting is tagged onsite. The stated office policy is four days per week in the office, with Fridays from home for employees near an office.

Compensation and benefits

• Listed annual base salary: $187,000–$259,000 USD. Actual base salary may be higher depending on location, skills, qualifications, and experience.
• Full-time employees may be eligible for bonuses, competitive equity, and benefits.
