The platform processes 25+ trillion data points annually from IoT sensors, cameras, and connected devices across thousands of organizations.
About the Role
We are looking for software engineers who want to define what ships next. Leveling is broad and flexible: we're hiring from Senior through Staff+, across platform and product, and shaping scope around the right person's strengths and interests.
Responsibilities
- Take ownership of technically complex, mission-critical areas end to end.
- Define and drive technical strategy for new products and platform capabilities, from backend services and APIs to the customer-facing UI.
- Design and ship full-stack features end to end across backend, frontend, and potentially mobile to deliver AI-powered products.
- Partner with product, design, and customer-facing teams to translate ambiguous problems into clear technical plans.
- Build and scale systems behind AI-driven products, including data ingestion, APIs, and workflows.
- Raise the engineering bar through code reviews, design reviews, technical mentorship, and setting quality standards.
- Champion and embed Samsara's cultural principles as the company scales globally.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
- 8+ years of experience in software design and development, including building and operating production systems at scale.
- Strong full-stack fundamentals across backend services, APIs, and frontend (web or mobile).
- Proficiency in modern languages and frameworks (Go, Python, TypeScript/JavaScript, React, or similar).
- Demonstrated experience leading cross-team or cross-org projects from inception through rollout.
- Experience building AI-powered or data-driven products.
- Strong communication skills and ability to translate between technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- A proven track record of shipping zero-to-one products and solving complex problems.
Ideal Qualifications
- Experience shipping AI-powered features in production (LLM-based products, agentic workflows, recommendation systems, or other customer-facing AI).
- Comfort with modern AI-augmented development workflows (Cursor, LLMs, etc.).
- Background working with real-world operational data (telematics, sensor data, work orders, inspections).
- Track record of mentoring senior engineers and influencing engineering culture and best practices.
- Side projects or open-source contributions showing drive and curiosity.
Benefits
Flexible, employee-led remote model, professional development stipend, comprehensive health and parental leave plans, plus initial RSU equity grant with no vesting cliff and ongoing refresh opportunities.
