You will build the services behind these exports, shape technical direction, and mentor engineers. The role is suited to someone progressing toward Staff Engineer.

  • Candidates must be US-based.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build scalable, reliable backend services in Node.js and Go to collect, transform, and deliver large volumes of endpoint data.
  • Design and evolve APIs with clear contracts, versioning, and backward compatibility.
  • Build third-party connectors that handle different authentication methods, rate limits, payload formats, and failure behavior.
  • Implement retries, backoff, deduplication, and back-pressure to prevent data loss or duplication.
  • Build event-driven workflows with NATS and durable multi-step jobs with Temporal.
  • Lead technical design, drive decisions across teams, and write actionable design documents.
  • Improve metrics, logs, tracing, and alerting to detect export problems before customers do.
  • Write unit tests and partner with QA and automation engineers on integration and end-to-end coverage.
  • Debug production issues, identify root causes, and implement preventive fixes.
  • Mentor engineers and establish standards for design, testing, and operations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience; Computer Science or a related technical field preferred.
  • At least eight years building and operating production backend services, including leading designs and influencing technical direction beyond your team.
  • Strong proficiency in Go or Node.js and willingness to work in both.
  • Experience designing APIs using REST, GraphQL, or gRPC; building event-driven systems using NATS, Kafka, RabbitMQ, or similar; and implementing multi-step workflows.
  • Experience integrating third-party APIs and SaaS products, including OAuth.
  • Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, and Azure or AWS.
  • Experience with SQL or NoSQL data stores, Git, and CI/CD pipelines such as Jenkins or GitHub Actions.
  • Proficiency with AI-assisted development tools, such as Claude or GitHub Copilot.
  • Must be eligible to obtain FedRAMP clearance at a minimum.
  • Sound judgment balancing delivery speed with long-term maintainability and supportability.
  • Commitment to shared quality ownership and writing tests alongside code.
  • Ability to debug production incidents under pressure and address root causes.
  • Comfort mentoring colleagues and improving team standards.

Preferred Experience

  • NATS, Temporal, or similar workflow orchestration tools.
  • SIEM or ITSM platforms such as Splunk and ServiceNow, or security and endpoint data.
  • React, TypeScript, or multi-tenant SaaS services.
