Embedded Software Engineer, Access Control

Verkada

San Mateo, Ca · on site · full time

$125,000 - $160,000

About the Role

We are a small, dynamic team focused on building cloud-managed access control systems. Access Control is our second major product line, allowing users to manage doors, schedules, and credentials from anywhere on their laptop or phone. Operating as a startup within a startup with significant ownership and autonomy, you'll collaborate alongside firmware, backend, and frontend engineers to develop this product line.

This role requires working onsite five days per week at our HQ in San Mateo, CA.

What You'll Do

  • Deliver best-in-class products and user experiences rather than just isolated features.
  • Take early-stage, less-than-fully-fleshed-out product ideas and drive them to completion.
  • Tackle large, complex technical problems with no clear answers as a self-motivated problem solver.
  • Learn new technologies while taking technical ownership of major systems, sharing knowledge with the team.

What You Bring

Minimum Qualifications

  • BS or graduate degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 1-3 years of experience working on Linux development as a Software Engineer.
  • Proficiency in C/C++.
  • Familiarity with Linux servers, Linux device drivers, Linux kernel patches, secure operating systems, and security-focused programming.
  • Bash scripting experience.
  • Experience working with distributed systems.
  • Understanding of HTTP and practical debugging techniques.
  • Willingness and ability to work onsite five days per week.

Nice to Have

  • Preferred experience working with embedded Linux.
  • Experience with Yocto.
  • Familiarity with Secure Boot.
  • Familiarity with Go and Python.
  • Familiarity with WebRTC.

Benefits

100% employee and 80% family healthcare premiums covered, nationwide medical/dental/vision, HSA/FSA, mental health support, paid parental leave, fertility benefits, flexible PTO, holidays, professional development stipend, wellness perks, daily lunches, and commuter benefits.
