Master's Data Science Internship 2027 (USA)

About the role

Pinterest is seeking Data Science interns to help shape its product, understand user and advertiser behavior, measure advertiser value, and help employees evaluate product changes faster. Interns apply quantitative analysis, statistical techniques, modeling, and data mining while working with engineering and product partners. Their insights influence team roadmaps, product opportunities, experimentation, and key initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Use data and exploratory analysis to understand user behavior and trends and identify opportunities for product innovation.
• Design and implement core metrics and help design and evaluate A/B experiments.
• Explore alternative experimentation techniques that help internal teams evaluate ideas faster.
• Communicate insights and collaborate with product managers, engineers, designers, and researchers to build new Pinterest experiences.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a master's degree in statistics, mathematics, economics, applied sciences, computer science, or a related field.
• Ability to manipulate large, complex, high-dimensional datasets; fluency in SQL and a scripting language, either Python or R.
• Experience solving analytical problems using quantitative approaches, including machine learning, statistical modeling, forecasting, econometrics, or related fields.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to explain findings to technical and non-technical partners.
• Ability to connect data analysis to business problems and business performance.
• Strong critical thinking when evaluating AI-generated suggestions, including validating correctness, performance, security, and maintainability.
• Comfort iterating on prompts, refining workflows, and adapting AI-assisted approaches to the problem, context, and constraints.

Internship dates and location

• Paid, 12-week internship with two fixed date options:

- May 17, 2027–August 6, 2027.
- June 14, 2027–September 3, 2027.

• Depending on the team, internships are remote or hybrid in San Francisco, Palo Alto, Seattle, or New York.
• In-person collaboration may require living within commuting distance of a Pinterest office.
• US-based applicants only.

Compensation

• Stated pay: $11,000 per month.
