About the Role

As an Embedded Software Engineering Intern for 2027, you will own one or more projects on product- or platform-facing teams, work across the software stack, and collaborate cross-functionally to build Verkada's security systems. This internship requires on-site work at Verkada's headquarters in San Mateo, California, during winter or summer 2027.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and improve embedded software for Verkada's device fleet.
• Manage project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables.
• Partner with hardware engineers to develop embedded software and firmware features in C, C++, and Go.
• Design, develop, and verify embedded software, firmware, and device drivers.
• Work with product management and cross-functional teams to build and ship customer-facing features.
• Experiment with and test new development boards.
• Contribute regularly to the existing codebase and deliver new features through frequent over-the-air updates.
• Collaborate with senior engineers to define specifications for future products.

Qualifications

• Available to work at Verkada headquarters during winter or summer 2027.
• Actively pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science or a similar technical field, with graduation by June 2028.
• Internship experience developing and launching products.
• Work experience with Embedded Linux, C, USB, I2C, and Yocto.
• Familiarity with Linux servers, Linux device drivers, Linux kernel patches, secure operating systems, and security-focused programming.
• Comfortable working in an agile software development team.

Compensation and Benefits

• Estimated hourly pay: $55–$65 USD. Actual starting pay may fall above or below this range based on location, skills, experience, market demands, and internal parity.
