Staff Software Engineer

About the Role

Xometry is looking for a Staff Software Engineer to join our Core Platform team. This role is a strategic technical leadership position focused on the architectural evolution of our flagship enterprise partnership.

While our current plug-ins function as external add-ons, you will be responsible for re-architecting Xometry’s core application services to live natively within our partner's digital ecosystem. You will shape the technical direction of multiple products, establishing the engineering patterns that allow Xometry’s AI—trained on millions of parts—to operate directly on our partner's native 3D geometry. Your goal is to move the architectural framework toward a "target state" where users experience zero-latency DFM feedback and one-click procurement without ever leaving their primary enterprise design environment.

*Note: This role requires a hybrid schedule (3 days a week) at our North Bethesda, MD or Waltham, MA office location.*

How You'll Contribute

• Software Development and Technical Craft: Design high-performance solutions extending beyond a single org, establishing organizational standards for embedding Xometry-AI into external PLM environments. Advance architectural frameworks for extensibility, scalability, and strict enterprise SLIs/SLOs.
• AI Fluency: Integrate production ML pipelines into the application layer, ensuring optimized model serving and real-time geometry analysis. Champion AI-assisted development practices and mentor engineers on using AI tools.
• Problem Solving and Decision Making: Address challenges regarding data gravity and security. Facilitate formal networks between partner and internal engineering groups, particularly concerning "ring-fenced" data governance.
• Scope and Impact: Establish strategic direction and execution of core integrations, ensuring DFM and IQE AI engines create a defensible edge.
• Collaboration and Communication: Facilitate technical discourse across the organization, guiding risk/reward discussions with senior leadership and collaborating cross-functionally across marketplace and data science teams.
• Operational Excellence: Define reliability and security standards for enterprise-grade deployments and multi-tenant management.

What You'll Bring to Xometry

• 12+ years of professional software development experience, scaling complex platforms.
• Expert-level mastery of Python, AWS infrastructure, and modern frontend frameworks (React/Next.js) for complex enterprise applications.
• Proven experience shaping technical direction across multiple teams and establishing engineering patterns.
• Track record of securing endorsement for 6-12 month initiatives and driving them to successful production deployment.
• Ability to influence senior leadership and external partners on technical strategy.
• Bachelor’s in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Background in building SaaS platforms or complex B2B integration hubs.
• Experience with manufacturing, logistics, or CAD/PLM software ecosystems.
• Deep understanding of enterprise data controls, dedicated tenants, and SOC2/ISO compliance within cloud environments.
• Experience architecting large-scale ML platforms or high-frequency marketplace engines.
