Software Engineer II, Backend (Test Infra)

About the Role

Affirm is seeking a Software Engineer II with strong experience in test automation to contribute to Developer Productivity, focusing on Test Platform Engineering. The Test Infra team empowers developers to efficiently write, run, analyze, and maintain automated tests.

In this role, you will help build and evolve the core testing infrastructure supporting engineering productivity across Affirm. You will design and maintain scalable, reliable, and developer-friendly frontend and backend test automation solutions, as well as CI pipelines.

What You'll Do

• Own, improve, and maintain integration and E2E test automation frameworks, along with their associated CI pipelines.
• Design and implement technical solutions to optimize test execution time and enhance test stability.
• Write technical specifications and ADRs, contribute to technical solution design, and collaborate with engineers across the company.
• Support engineering teams by assisting with triage requests and sharing best practices for quality assurance and test automation.
• Contribute to the evolution of the company’s overall test strategy.
• Break down larger projects into individual tasks with the support of your tech lead and manager, delivering in multiple phases.
• Participate in an on-call rotation.

What We Look For

• 3+ years of experience in test automation.
• Proficiency in both TypeScript and Python.
• Hands-on experience with Playwright and Pytest.
• Experience in building and optimizing CI pipelines.
• Experience with Docker and AWS.
• Strong background in quality assurance, test design, and in-depth knowledge of testing techniques and methodologies.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills (both verbal and written), with proficiency in asynchronous communication (tech specs, RFCs, wikis, project plans).
• Ability to turn business scenarios into multi-component solutions with clean, well-tested code.
• An East Coast location to enable smoother collaboration with European colleagues is preferred.
• Experience building or enhancing test automation frameworks and infrastructure is highly desirable.
• Mobile, infrastructure, and performance test automation experience is a significant advantage.
• Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent practical experience.
