About the Role

Scale AI is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Team Lead for our ARC (Architecture, Reliability, & Compute) team supporting our Public Sector Engineering team. As the lead of this team, you will define how the company ships software, establishing patterns for deploying into complex government and high-security environments. You will build and maintain internal CLIs/tools that standardize testing, deployment, and environment management, execute automated deployment efforts to pay down tech debt, create staging/testing environments, and define standards for safe deployments. As Team Lead, you will provide mentorship, manage team performance, and guide the technical direction.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement secure, scalable backend systems for Public Sector customers, leveraging Scale's modern and cloud-native AI infrastructure.
  • Provide mentorship to and manage the performance of team members.
  • Own services or systems and define their long-term health goals while improving surrounding components.
  • Re-architect the stack to run in compliant or restrictive environments with swappable components (auth, storage, logging) to meet government/security mandates without breaking the product.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define and execute backend solutions for government agencies.
  • Participate actively in customer engagements, working closely with stakeholders to understand requirements.
  • Contribute to the platform roadmap and product strategy for Scale AI's Public Sector business.

Requirements

  • Must have an active Secret clearance (candidates without an active Secret clearance will not be considered).
  • Must be able to work 3 days a week from the DC, SF, NYC, or STL office.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Full Stack Development: Proficiency in front-end and back-end development, modern web development frameworks, programming languages, and databases. Experience delivering software to air-gapped & isolated environments is a plus.
  • Cloud-Native Technologies: Understanding of containerization (e.g., Docker) and container orchestration (e.g., Kubernetes). Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and cloud-native application deployment.
  • Security Focused: Experience with Federal Compliance frameworks and requirements (e.g., Cloud SRG, FedRAMP, STIG Benchmarks) and developing software meeting strict security and regulatory requirements.
  • Problem Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to understand complex challenges and devise effective solutions.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to articulate technical concepts and work cross-functionally.
