Software Engineer, Business Systems

Formlabs

Somerville, Ma · hybrid · full time · Entry Level

$100,000 - $140,000

About the Role

As a Software Engineer on Business Systems, you will build the software that runs Formlabs: the integrations, automations, internal tools, and platform extensions behind how we sell, ship, bill, and account for 3D printers worldwide. You will write production code across our core business platforms (NetSuite, Salesforce, Shopify, and our GCP-based data platform) and see your work used by colleagues across Finance, Sales, Service, Marketing, and Operations.

This role is built for early-career engineers, including recent graduates, who learn fast and want real ownership early.

Responsibilities

  • Build and Ship: Write, test, and deploy production code in TypeScript/Node.js and Python for system integrations, workflow automations, internal tools, and platform extensions.
  • Learn the Landscape: Work across Financial Systems, Digital Systems, and Data Platform to understand how data and transactions flow from order through fulfillment, billing, and reporting.
  • Connect Systems: Build and maintain APIs, webhooks, and data pipelines moving information reliably between eCommerce, CRM, ERP, and data warehouse systems.
  • Engineer with AI: Leverage AI coding tools (Claude Code, Codex) and build AI-supported workflows.
  • Own the Lifecycle: Take work from problem definition and requirements gathering through design, testing, CI/CD, deployment, and production support.
  • Raise the Bar: Follow and improve engineering standards including version control, code review, automated testing, and clear documentation.

Qualifications

  • 0–3 years of professional software engineering experience, including internships and co-ops (recent graduates encouraged to apply).
  • Working proficiency in at least one of Python or TypeScript/JavaScript, with core knowledge of data structures, APIs, and debugging, plus willingness to learn the other.
  • Hands-on experience using AI coding tools (Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, etc.).
  • Strong ownership and communication skills with the ability to explain technical trade-offs to non-technical partners.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Bonus Points

  • Experience writing SQL and working with relational databases or data warehouses (e.g., BigQuery).
  • Experience with Node.js, REST APIs, or webhooks.
  • Exposure to cloud platforms (GCP, AWS, Azure) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Familiarity with Git/GitHub workflows and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Exposure to platforms like Salesforce, NetSuite, or Shopify.

Benefits

Formlabs offers comprehensive health, dental, and vision coverage, 401(k) with low-cost funds, RSU equity, up to 16 weeks paid parental leave, up to 6 weeks paid sabbatical, flexible time off, commuter benefits, free on-site parking, healthy meals, and unlimited 3D prints.
