Senior Software Engineer (Thomas)

Role Overview

Thomasnet, part of Xometry, is transitioning from a traditional supplier directory to AI-assisted sourcing where buyers describe needs and the platform manages the matching. We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to build and maintain the systems driving this transformation, from daily product experiences to core AI-powered capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Hands-on Technical Leadership: Lead by example through coding, reviewing, and troubleshooting; establish solid coding patterns and architectural designs for the team.
• End-to-End Project Leadership: Own the design and delivery of features independently from problem to production, including AI capabilities leveraging LLMs, retrieval, search, evaluations, and guardrails.
• Mentorship & Code Review: Guide and mentor team engineers, conduct thorough code reviews, and elevate review standards.
• Operational Excellence: Own testing and reliability for shipped software, aligning with customer expectations and business timelines.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of software development experience focused on outcomes.
• Strong full-stack engineering skills that transfer to our stack (TypeScript, Node.js, GraphQL APIs, React, Next.js, PostgreSQL, OpenSearch/search platforms) or comparable modern stacks.
• Hands-on experience building AI-powered product features (LLM applications, retrieval-augmented generation, vector search, or search relevance).
• Demonstrated commitment to unit and integration testing, execution, and debugging.
• Preferred Qualifications:

- Experience with multimodal (image and text) embeddings and search.
- Experience with agent orchestration frameworks (e.g., LangGraph, LangChain).
- Experience fine-tuning or adapting models for a domain.
- Experience with e-commerce or digital marketplace products.
