Senior Staff Software Engineer, Networking
Axon
Seattle, Wa · hybrid · full time · Staff
$190,500 - $304,800
Your Impact
Axon is expanding how its cloud platform runs across multiple clouds. As we grow our footprint across AWS, Azure and devices, our networking needs are getting more complex, and we are rebuilding our entire networking stack from the edge to service-to-service communications, as well as connections between clouds. As a Senior Staff Software Engineer you will be the technical leader for that work. You will set the architecture direction, make the hard trade-offs, and make sure the network underneath our products is reliable, secure, and fast enough for mission-critical use by public safety customers.
You will join forces with infrastructure, platform, security, and product engineering teams to design intra and inter-cloud connectivity that the rest of Axon can build on with confidence. Your deep networking expertise, built at an established company operating networking products or infrastructure at scale, lets you see problems early and steer teams toward designs that hold up under real production load.
You are a force multiplier. You raise the technical bar across the organizations, advise senior leaders on networking and cloud service strategy, and mentor the next set of technical leaders. You are comfortable with ambiguity, and you move large, cross-team initiatives forward by influencing people you do not manage.
What You’ll Do
- Define the architecture and technical strategy for Axon's cloud networking, including connectivity between clouds
- Lead the redesign of our networking stack from design through production rollout
- Drive technical decisions on availability, performance, security, compliance, and cost
- Provide deep technical insight in architecture and design reviews, and set a high bar for standards of excellence
- Join forces with infrastructure, platform, security, and product teams to deliver complex, cross-team initiatives
- Identify networking and cloud service risks early and advise engineering leadership on where to invest
- Mentor and coach senior engineers and grow the next generation of technical leaders
- Stay current on cloud computing technologies and bring in new approaches where they improve our systems
- Set group level AI strategy for engineering, and lead by example, in engineering acceleration with AI
What You Bring

- Networking development experience at an established company, with a track record of building and operating networking systems at scale

- Experience designing and building networking for public cloud environments, ideally AWS and/or Azure
- Experience with multi-cloud or inter-cloud connectivity (nice to have)
- Expertise in designing and implementing networking and cloud service architecture that complies to government compliance standards such as FedRAMP and GovRAMP (nice to have)
- Hands-on experience in leveraging the latest AI engineering tools to accelerate throughout software development lifecycle
- Proficiency in one or more programming languages used in systems engineering, such as Go, C, C++, Python, or Java
- A track record of articulating and executing on technical strategy
- Strong written and verbal communication and sound decision-making that balances technical and business objectives
- Experience mentoring senior engineers and influencing across teams without direct authority
- A high bar on standards of excellence, and the ability to raise the bar for the engineers around you
- Comfort working through ambiguous, high-stakes problems and making steady progress
