Senior Software Engineer

About the Role

Tanium seeks a Senior Software Engineer to build and maintain products within a small, agile development team. Engineers design, develop, test, and deploy new products from the ground up, continuously incorporating feedback from product management and customers.

Work Arrangement

Hybrid, with at least three days per week in an office in Addison, TX; Bellevue, WA; Durham, NC; or Emeryville, CA.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain Tanium products alongside an agile development team.
• Engage with customers and use feedback to guide product design.
• Design, develop, test, and deploy new products in collaboration with product management.
• Balance rapid development with long-term code maintainability and supportability.
• Write automated tests as part of development.
• Debug production issues under pressure and address their root causes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience; a Computer Science degree is preferred.
• Eligibility for U.S. federal contract work is required. Ability to obtain Canadian Reliability status (Protected B) is a plus, not a requirement.
• At least five years of industry experience; seven or more preferred.
• Experience building large cloud-based data services.
• Knowledge of at least one of Go, C++, or Rust; Go is preferred.
• Experience with PostgreSQL and API design and development.
• Experience with Azure or AWS Database Services.
• Experience with cloud object storage, such as AWS S3 or Azure Blob Storage.
• Experience designing memory-efficient streaming and multipart data-transfer systems.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code using tools such as Terraform or Pulumi, and container orchestration using Kubernetes.
• Experience with modern software development and automation tools, including Git and CI/CD pipelines.
• Excellent judgment, production debugging experience, familiarity with modern backend frameworks, and versatility in learning new tools and languages.

Compensation and Benefits

• Annual base salary: $191,000–$293,000. Actual offers depend on factors including location, education, skills, training, and experience.

• Five days of volunteer time off.
