About Crusoe
Crusoe is a vertically integrated AI infrastructure company operating across energy, manufacturing, data center construction, and cloud services.
About the Role
The Staff Software Engineer, Internal Tools & Automation will serve as a forward-deployed engineer embedded with internal teams such as SRE, Finance, Sales, People Ops, or a product group. You will build applications, automations, and agents that help teams take action and make their work faster, clearer, and more dependable. Success is measured by adoption and time and effort saved. As one of the first engineers in this new function, you will help shape how it operates.
The role uses interactive BI tooling, governed access to company data for AI agents, and automation platforms to connect actions across systems such as CRM, support, infrastructure inventory, and the data warehouse.
Responsibilities
- Embed with a stakeholder team, participate in its rituals, observe manual workflows, and identify high-leverage opportunities for software.
- Build interactive applications that read data, apply decisions, and write results back to systems of record.
- Replace repetitive work with pipelines and agents that run independently and involve people when judgment is required.
- Own work end to end: scope problems, build, deploy, measure adoption, and iterate with support from partner teams.
- Turn reusable skills, integrations, and UI patterns into shared platform building blocks.
- Use authoritative data sources, respect governance and access controls, and build tooling reliable enough for daily operational use.
Required Qualifications
- At least 8 years building and owning production software, including writing clean code, shipping it, and remaining accountable for production operation.
- Staff-level scope and judgment: turn ambiguous, greenfield work into a plan and shipped software with limited direction, raise technical standards, and help other engineers grow.
- Full-stack engineering skills covering user-facing interfaces, backend services and APIs, and supporting data layers.
- Strong SQL and data modeling skills, including navigating a data warehouse, reasoning about pipelines, and validating numbers.
- Product mindset and stakeholder fluency: collaborate with non-engineers, translate manual processes into clear tools, and push back when a request is not the right solution.
- Fast delivery with attention to correctness, thoughtful hardening, and a clear standard for completion.
- Comfort with AI-assisted development, LLM agents, and automation platforms, including understanding where guardrails are needed.
- Strong ownership and a focus on making stakeholder work easier, faster, and more reliable.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience as a forward-deployed, solutions, or embedded engineer.
- BI or analytics engineering experience with tools such as Sigma, Looker, dbt, or Tableau.
- Familiarity with Workato or n8n.
- Experience with MCP, agent frameworks, or LLM tool use.
- Comfort in an early-stage environment with significant ambiguity.
Location and Employment
- Full-time, on-site in San Francisco, California.
Compensation and Benefits
- Stated compensation range: $215,000–$260,000 plus bonus.
- Restricted Stock Units are included in all offers. Compensation depends on knowledge, education, abilities, internal equity, and market data.
- Paid time off, holidays, leave programs, parental leave, and volunteer time off.
