Software Engineer, Infrastructure

About the Role

Join Chime's Core Infrastructure team, which manages the infrastructure powering Chime products and supports their reliability. The team's scope includes cloud operations, observability, and compute infrastructure. Core Infrastructure is part of the Infrastructure Engineering organization, alongside Infra Platform and Data Infra.

Responsibilities

• Automate scaling, monitoring, and operations.
• Build self-service tools for the team and the broader engineering organization using Ruby on Rails and Go.
• Design, build, and support cloud infrastructure using automation and infrastructure as code.
• Adopt technologies that improve efficiency and reliability.
• Partner with product development engineers to build services using modern design patterns, including the 12 Factor App methodology.
• Build relationships with engineers, managers, and colleagues based on trust, empathy, and technical expertise.
• Advocate for AI tools and promote safe, reliable agentic AI workflows.

Qualifications

• More than two years of cloud and infrastructure experience.
• Strong development experience with Ruby on Rails and Go.
• Professional experience in a DevOps, SRE, or production engineering role supporting customer-facing web services.
• Demonstrated success building effective partnerships and communicating with engineers and teams.
• Experience managing cloud-hosted or self-hosted Kubernetes clusters.
• Experience building and managing highly available public cloud infrastructure and services, emphasizing stability, scalability, and security.
• Experience with configuration management and infrastructure-as-code tools, including maintaining Terraform modules.
• Experience supporting relational or NoSQL databases, message buses, caching services, and other common service components.
• Familiarity with monitoring, logging, and observability platforms.
• A positive attitude, collaborative mindset, and customer focus.
• Experience with some of AWS services, Kubernetes, Argo CD, Datadog, and Terraform.

Location and Work Arrangement

Listed locations are Chicago, IL; New York, NY; and San Francisco, CA. The posting is tagged remote. Chime's general policy calls for four office days per week and Fridays from home for employees near an office, with a fully remote program also available.

Compensation and Benefits

• Posted annual base salary: $133,000–$184,000 USD. Actual base salary may be higher depending on location, skills, qualifications, and experience.
