Senior Software Engineer II - Platform

Samsara

remote · full time · Senior

$154,700 - $260,000

About the Role

Samsara is hiring a Senior Software Engineer II to join our Platform team.

This team is responsible for reducing workflow distance for customers through great in-dashboard experiences. The team improves the efficiency of day-to-day workflows and helps users discover features and functionality across the Samsara dashboard. They own the cross-platform full-stack infrastructure and product patterns that are deeply integral to the web dashboard experience, shaping how users navigate, discover, and get value from the Samsara dashboard.

The team is focused on building useful AI experiences that help users get value from the product more quickly and make it easier to grow adoption over time. The team brings AI into real product workflows, connects that work to onboarding and engagement, and builds the systems needed to support AI usage as it expands across more of the product.

Responsibilities

  • Help shape the technical direction of the platform, including the full-stack systems, shared patterns, and AI-powered product experiences that power the Samsara dashboard.
  • Design and build end-to-end features that bring AI into real product workflows, spanning customer-facing experiences, backend services, and supporting infrastructure.
  • Scale the systems and foundations behind the web experience so they can support growth in product usage and AI adoption without sacrificing reliability, quality, or usability.
  • Standardize patterns and raise the technical bar through code reviews, design discussions, mentorship, and close collaboration with product, design, and peer engineering teams.
  • Partner with engineering and product leadership on high-leverage bets, make clear tradeoffs, and help build a team culture grounded in long-term thinking, inclusiveness, and shared success.
  • Champion, role model, and embed Samsara’s cultural principles as we scale globally and across new offices.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8+ years building software with strong programming and design fundamentals.
  • 4+ years working on large-scale distributed systems.
  • 4+ years leading technical projects across multiple teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience building developer platforms, internal tooling, or CI/CD for a large engineering org (hundreds of engineers or more).
  • Experience shipping real work with AI coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, custom agents).
  • Strong skills in Go, Python, TypeScript, or a similar language.
  • A track record of making engineers measurably faster (quicker builds, easier deploys, less toil, happier developers).
  • Comfort working in ambiguity and getting teams aligned without needing formal authority.

Benefits

Flexible employee-led remote model, professional development stipend, comprehensive health and parental leave plans, and an initial RSU grant with no vesting cliff plus refresh opportunities.
