Senior Software Engineer, R&D

About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer for our R&D team at Commure, taking emerging technology from inception to impact. We scout new capabilities—such as frontier LLMs, browser agents, and self-improving harnesses—and productionize them for healthcare. Our job covers the full arc: research, productize, deliver to customers, and own through graduation.

This role is hybrid and based in our Mountain View or San Francisco offices.

What You'll Do

• Build the infrastructure that orchestrates, evaluates, and runs sub-agents, including channel adapters for intelligence flow.
• Get hands-on with cutting-edge capabilities (chaining tool calls across LLMs, browser agents, self-improving harnesses) to turn experimental prototypes into production-level tools.
• Take technology from first principles to production: research, build, ship, and own through graduation.
• Establish best practices for code quality, testing, deployment, and observability.
• Collaborate with product managers, designers, and clinical experts to ship intuitive solutions for clinical environments.
• Work in a fast-moving environment that ships daily and makes decisions quickly.

What You Have

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
• Professional software engineering experience, ideally in a high-growth or startup environment.
• Strong fullstack skills: Python on the backend (required), JavaScript/React on the frontend, with working knowledge of containers and cloud (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Hands-on experience integrating LLM APIs or building AI-powered features in production.
• Track record of driving work from early ideation to successful production deployment.
• Strong debugging and problem-solving skills with demonstrated resourcefulness.
• Strong communication skills and comfort collaborating across technical and clinical teams.
• Experience in fast-paced environments with rapid shipping cadences.
