Role Overview
The Software Engineer, New Grad joins Harvey's Engineering team, working alongside experienced engineers to build the AI-powered systems that serve the world's leading law firms and enterprises. The team's mission is to deliver secure, intuitive, and high-performance application-layer experiences that turn frontier AI capabilities into real customer value. This role offers an accelerated path to ownership, contributing production code to features spanning retrieval, document intelligence, and workflow automation from day one.
We're currently hiring new grads to start in 2027 across multiple teams and roles, including Frontend, Backend, Full-Stack, Infrastructure, and Applied AI roles. Your interests & experience will be factored into our team matching process across teams including Agents, Applied AI, Assistant, Enterprise, Infrastructure, Mobile, Vault, and others.
What You'll Do
- Design, implement, and ship production-level code across the stack while maintaining high quality, reliability, and security standards.
- Own the quality of everything you ship—AI-generated or not—using AI-assisted development tools daily.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including AI Research, Legal Engineering, Product, and Design to translate problem statements into compelling product experiences.
- Collaborate with your team through code reviews, technical design discussions, and engineering best-practice development alongside senior and staff engineers.
- Experiment with and evaluate cutting-edge LLMs and AI systems, contributing to how Harvey's platform evolves.
- Work on retrieval over large document collections, interfaces for collaborating with AI systems, multi-region compute infrastructure, enterprise agents, or secure systems for sensitive client data (depending on team).
What You Have
- Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field, graduating between Winter 2026 and Spring 2027.
- Ability to work from the New York or San Francisco office starting in January 2027 and beyond.
- Previous internship experience is required.
- Strong proficiency in one or more languages (Python, TypeScript/JavaScript, Java, Go, or similar) and solid general computer science knowledge.
- Decisiveness and a bias toward action; experience building something start to finish in coursework, a personal project, or a past internship.
- Ability to explain complex technical ideas simply and clearly to engineers and non-engineers alike.
- Persistence and dedication to proactively seek feedback and iterate.
- Past internship experience at an early-stage startup is a plus.
- AI-forward mindset: comfortable using AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code, Codex, and Cursor, and curious about integrating LLMs into your coding workflow.
