About the Role

Fastly is searching for a Senior SaaS Operations Engineer to support our in-office and remote Fastlyans. Keeping our IT infrastructure running effectively, securely, and up to date is critical for the day-to-day tasks of every employee. You will have significant experience in supporting a fast-paced, high-growth environment, working as part of a distributed team supporting operations in our Global offices.

You have previous experience as a Systems Administrator, combined with advanced Service Desk capabilities. You've touched all aspects of a large SaaS environment and can scale along with the company. You're also curious about how AI is changing IT operations and want to help bring tools like Claude, ChatGPT, and Gemini to our employees safely and effectively.

What You'll Do

  • Lead the design, implementation, and maintenance of complex information systems, ensuring high availability, security, and performance
  • Proactively identify and mitigate system vulnerabilities and performance bottlenecks
  • Lead and mentor a team of engineers, providing technical guidance and support
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., product, security) to deliver solutions that meet business objectives
  • Administer enterprise AI platforms (Claude, OpenAI, Gemini), including SSO/SCIM, access controls, and license management
  • Partner with Security and Legal to review AI connectors and integrations using least-privilege and data-governance principles
  • Build AI-assisted automations that reduce manual IT work and improve the employee experience
  • Research and recommend new technologies, including emerging AI tools
  • Maintain documentation for systems and processes, including AI usage guidelines
  • Provide expert-level troubleshooting for critical system issues and help shape engineering best practices

What We're Looking For

  • 10+ years in IT support roles, including 5+ years in a senior or lead engineering position
  • Deep understanding of system architecture, design patterns, and best practices
  • Proven ability to lead and mentor engineering teams
  • Strong experience with cloud-based IT environments (Google Workspace, Zoom, Slack, GitHub, Atlassian, etc.), with advanced domain knowledge of Okta
  • Hands-on experience deploying or administering enterprise AI tools (Claude, OpenAI, or Gemini), including identity integration and data-handling controls
  • Experience with automation and scripting for system administration
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information to technical and non-technical audiences
  • Ability to align technology with business objectives and make data-driven recommendations

Bonus Qualifications

  • Infrastructure-as-code experience (e.g., Terraform, Ansible)
  • Experience building with Claude, OpenAI, or Gemini APIs, including agents, MCP servers, or prompt engineering for business workflows
  • Experience establishing AI governance practices, such as connector reviews or acceptable-use policies
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., Okta Certified Professional, Google Cloud Certified Professional Cloud Architect)

Work Hours & Interview Guidelines

  • Available during core business hours; occasional nights and weekends may be required to support on-call coverage.
  • AI Interview Policy: The use of AI technologies—including real-time transcription tools, automated scripts, AI copilots, or external assistants—is strictly prohibited during the interview process unless explicitly authorized in advance.

Benefits

Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage, family planning, mental health support, life and disability insurance, flexible vacation, up to 18 accrued sick days, 401(k) with match, ESPP, 12 paid holidays, and 12 wellness days.
